Professor Dr. Habil. Ioan Valentin Petrescu-Mag is a senior academic and researcher with extensive expertise in ichthyology, aquaculture, evolutionary biology, and environmental sciences, distinguished by a strong interdisciplinary approach that integrates genetics, ecology, and ecotoxicology. He holds habilitation rights to supervise doctoral research, reflecting his established leadership in academic mentoring and advanced research training. His scientific trajectory is rooted in a PhD focused on the genetics of sex determination and differentiation in poeciliid fishes, particularly Poecilia reticulata, where he contributed to understanding the architecture and dynamics of sex-linked traits, Y-chromosome inheritance, and the mechanisms underlying sexual polymorphism. This line of inquiry has positioned him among specialists investigating sex chromosome evolution and the inheritance of quantitative traits in livebearing fishes. Further consolidating his expertise, his postdoctoral research addressed the ecotoxicology of endocrine-disrupting compounds, with a focus on their physiological and reproductive impacts in aquatic organisms.
